Taco Tuesday - Epiphany’s answer to 

Shrove (or “Fat”) Tuesday, when, on the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, all of the fat of the household is consumed in preparation for the Lenten Fast.  Join with your fellow congregation members and share a meal of tacos, beans, rice and all the fixings.  You will enjoy a fun evening and assist Epiphany’s Outreach efforts!  All are welcome.  February 5 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Ash Wednesday – The first day of the church’s penitential season of Lent.  Join us for the Ash Wednesday Liturgy and the imposition of ashes in the church at 12:30 and again at 7:30 p.m.

 

Lenten Evensong

Presented by the Choristers, with the Schola, followed by Recital:  Piano Duo Marina Grozdanovic & Lucy Nargizyan, featuring dramatic works for two pianos by Rachmaninoff, Lutoslawski,and Brahms. Sunday, February 10 at 5:00 p.m.

 Outreach

 Conejo Valley Free Meal Program - On the second Tuesday evening of every month, next month Tuesday, February 12, members of Epiphany prepare and serve dinner to those who are homeless or of very low income in our community.  For info or to sign up, contact Mary Lehr (818.707.6944).

Habitat for Humanity

Our Habitat for Humanity project is on the go!  All folks sixteen years and older are invited to come on out to the Simi Valley site and lend a hand.  At this time, we have three dates scheduled for an Epiphany team to pitch in.  Saturdays, February 16, March 15, and April 12.  Please contact Tim Halligan, 805-379-9589, to sign up. Work on the home proceeds every Wed., Fri., and Saturday from 8 to 4.  Volunteer opportunities are available for any of these days by registering at the habitatventura.org web site.

Formation

Lenten Pilgrimage “The Teachings of Paul”, with the Rev. Dr. Jarvis Streeter, Professor of Religion and Chair of the Religion department at California Lutheran University.  Wednesday evenings beginning February 13 – March 5, we will gather in the church for Evening Prayer at 6:15 p.m., share in a simple soup supper followed by the class.  If you would be able to bring a pot of soup for one of the suppers, please contact Yvonne Lux yvonnelux@gmail.com or (805)241-9135.  We look forward to seeing you there!

EYG (Youth Group) – meets tonight from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.  Our program is “What Do You Want To Tell The World?  What One Thing Can You Do to Change the World?”  It’s our annual video taping of our young people’s message to the world if they had the Super Bowl advertising dollars.  Dinner is provided.

The AYUG (As Yet Unnamed Group) is looking for members!  If you like to knit (or want to learn), or do crochet, needlepoint, applique, cross-stitch or some other handcraft, come to the first meeting of AYUG on Thursday, Feb. 14.  We meet from 9:30 to 11:30 in classroom 1 of the new building.  This is a relaxed group for people who like handwork, talking and eating (mostly simultaneously).  Have questions? Contact Anna Milliken (310 4573162) or Melissa McCarthy (at church).

OWLs (Older, Wiser Laity) will meet February 14 for a lunch and movie matinee.  Details to follow as the event gets closer.

Spiritual Direction
St. Patrick's is hosting a day-long group spiritual direction workshop and retreat facilitated by accredited spiritual director, Sarah Kitch.  Spiritual direction is a wonderful way to grow more deeply in your faith, discern God's presence in your life, and learn more about who you have been created to be.  The retreat will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  The cost is $25, checks payable to Sarah Kitch.  If you would like more information, please call Sarah Kitch at 818 442 4514.

Practicing our Faith, The Way of Jesus: 

This 3-week series, taught by the Revs. Hank Mitchel and Melissa McCarthy, is designed especially for those seeking to deepen their relationships with God, with each other, and with Christian community as well as those new to the Church of the Epiphany.  Each evening will begin with a light dinner followed by a short presentation, discussion, and will conclude with a service of night prayer called Compline.  This is a great way to meet new people, to learn about the Way of Jesus and Christian faith, as well as a great resource to jumpstart a renewed focus on your spiritual life. 

The last class is this Wednesday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m.  Childcare provided.
